When I paint, I am working to answer the question “What’s possible?”. My creative process explores the boundaries of color, texture, and values that are possible with a limited palette and a broad range of tools and techniques. Color combinations come from what I see – the blues and greens of water; vivid colors in the sky at sunset, dusk, or dawn; a walk in the woods; peeling paint of an old building; urban graffiti.

My current work begins with marking and painting two canvases. When finished, the canvases are torn into horizontal and vertical strips and woven and stretched into a single work of art. Vibrant colors and dynamic compositions are meant to lure the viewer closer, and that closer inspection often prompts curiosity about how these paintings are made.

Weaving for me communicates the connection of living beings with one another and the possibilities that connection, kindness, and compassion bring for the greater world. The exact nature of the final work is unpredictable because two separate canvases are being combined and I love that element of surprise.
