Gail White

Over the years the greatest inspiration for my art has been the beauty found in our natural world.  A walk in a garden or park fills me with joy and gratitude as I observe the shapes, forms and patterning found in nature.  Sunlight enhances the variety of hues and accentuates the forms and patterns, creating beautiful cast shadow shapes.  My curiosity sparks a desire to observe and learn the life cycle of a natural object and portray that awesome reality to the viewer, who may not have taken notice or enjoyed that observation.  In my studio practice, I have developed watercolor techniques to focus on the detail that gave me inspiration.  Then, having established the visual concept, I “push back” areas to remain ambiguous or out-of-focus.  That strong relationship between the subject and the natural world, is evident in my landscapes, still life and figural paintings as well.
