I rely on my intuition, imagination, and nature for inspiration.  I try to translate those thoughts into artistic expressions and techniques that often yield surprising results. I will edit and improvise as I go.  As the late TV artist personality Bob Ross said, “We don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents.”

My abstract paintings are all about color and composition, whereas realistic images may be more or less so.

My passion is sketchbooking.  I keep travel sketchbooks to chronicle my impressions and experiences while out of town or out of the country.  To me, these images are better than photos because I have had to closely observe and edit what I see before I start working—always in pen so that my sketches don’t become too studied and precious, and often enhanced with watercolor.  Sometimes a studio painting results from a sketch.  Mostly, the sketches stand on their own.

Acrylics and collage, watercolor, pen & ink, and colored pencil are my most-used media.
