I choose to work in the language of abstraction as a touchstone to my inner self. It is a way to crystallize experience for me. The process of manipulating materials on canvas or paper while reacting to the sensuous interplay of form, color, line and spatial delineation is akin to being set free on a playground. Recently, the immediacy of the monoprint technique has forced me to work more swiftly, lending itself to fresher more authentic responses. This technique allows me to free myself from the brush all while enjoying the use of new tools and textures to achieve, at times, unexpected results. I often use watercolor, pastel or casein to add additional mark making or shape to complete an image.
