Joan Davidson
My paintings are inspired by the emotional qualities I sense in the experience I am revealing on my canvas. As I paint, I think about music and dance. The rhythm, repetition and variation of the sounds of music and dance, as I think about the shapes, movements and spaces made by the dancers in and around my canvas.
My forms, colors, lines, patterns, and composition speak for me and create expressive imaginative images that reflect joy and energy. My subjects range from portraits, cityscapes, nature, abstract, social concerns, and some have a surrealistic touch to them
I work in a variety of media: oil on canvas, watercolor, a variety of drawing media, and mixed media to create two-dimensional work and relief tactile works.
My work ranges in size from 40” x 30” to smaller works.
