Valeria Guerra-Garcia WCA's 2025 Scholarship Recipient

The Women Contemporary Artists (WCA) Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that Valeria Guerra-Garcia has been selected as our WCA 2024 Scholarship recipient.

Valeria Guerra-Garcia was competitively selected to receive the Women Contemporary Artists’ 2025 Scholarship. She was presented a cash check for $3000 at their closing luncheon held on April 27. Valeria is a senior completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Ringling College of Art + Design and has been selected for a prestigious summer residency at the New York Academy of Art.

As an artist, Valeria has transcended traditional boundaries by excelling in printmaking, painting, and installations. Her work explores sacrifice, devotion, and ritual through the lens of womanhood shaped by the Catholic culture and her upbringing in Lima, Peru. Valeria’s exceptional talents and leadership have led to distinguished awards including the Ringling Arts Trustee Scholar Award, Chautauqua Institution Artist Residency Program, and the Davis Project for Peace Grant to support women and children in Argentia.

She will be using her scholarship to help her continue to combine her artistic voice with her desire to make a positive impact on the world.

Sophia Cavalluzzi WCA's 2024 Scholarship Recipient

The Women Contemporary Artists (WCA) Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that Sophia Cavalluzzi, a senior at Booker High School, has been selected as our WCA 2024 Scholarship recipient. Sophia is an outstanding young artist, who will be continuing her studies at Parsons School of Design majoring in Product Design. Working in both 2 and 3-D materials, her strong and innovative body of work is based on her inspiration of taking “childlike abstractions into fruitions and sophisticated innovation and possibility”. As the top art student at Booker, one of her instructors, Jeffrey Cornwell noted that she “knows what she wants and has her own clear voice, when there is an opportunity to learn, she acts on it and seeks to better herself by self-initiative and with enthusiasm”. Her portfolio and written materials, along with very strong faculty recommendations, made the selection by the committee an easy one.
