My medium is printmaking. I have been printing on and off for many years but now that I’ve settled into a quieter lifestyle, I’ve devoted more time to printing and rediscovering the medium and the endless possibilities.
My focus is on color, form, space and texture. I bring these elements together to set a tone, tell a story, express a point of view or bring about an emotion.
For me, every print session is like a little road trip that starts with the colors I’ve mixed and the abstract shapes I’ve created. Rolling out the ink, layering the shapes and adding marks are like the off-ramps to getting to a destination. The journey always allows for exploring new materials and approaches and discovering new techniques.
Originally I was an abstract oil painter. Intuitively I would add more paint, movement, shape and texture to the work. As the piece developed, the color would bring me into the painting. My work was emotionally expressive, pressing my feelings out onto the canvas. Now, drawing with pastels my work is more about deliberate choices. My painting compositions reflect my stories about travel, love and family. My inspiration is derived from mother nature, learning and exploring the world outside myself as well as my internal journey of self-reflection.
