Joan Schnuerch

After Joan moved from NY to the Bradenton/Sarasota area in Florida, she started seriously painting in oil, having never before tried it and loved it. The smoothness of oil paint, the delicate strokes that make a portrait glow cannot be copied in any other media. Influenced by the impressionists, she concentrated on land, seascapes and people, and eventually also worked with other mediums like watercolor and acrylics. Art is more than paint on canvas. Art is an expression of a work that is appreciated for its beauty or an emotional power touching a heart. Painting is how Joan expresses and shares joy using the views found throughout this beautiful world we share.

Originally I was an abstract oil painter. Intuitively I would add more paint, movement, shape and texture to the work. As the piece developed, the color would bring me into the painting. My work was emotionally expressive, pressing my feelings out onto the canvas. Now, drawing with pastels my work is more about deliberate choices. My painting compositions reflect my stories about travel, love and family. My inspiration is derived from mother nature, learning and exploring the world outside myself as well as my internal journey of self-reflection.
