Nancy Groff
Nancy considers creating art to be an adventure. She enjoys experimenting with and using all types of acrylics, watercolors, pastels, collage, and mixed media. Her work spans portraits to realism to abstract. As well as exploring different painting styles and mediums, she makes jewelry and pottery.
Nancy draws inspiration from her travels, studio-created still-life setups, and nature. She has no one style or philosophy but rather is seeking to use her creative side in all she does. It’s not the end product but the journey that matters. Her artistic journey is an essential part of her life and is constantly challenging and rewarding in equal measure.
Originally I was an abstract oil painter. Intuitively I would add more paint, movement, shape and texture to the work. As the piece developed, the color would bring me into the painting. My work was emotionally expressive, pressing my feelings out onto the canvas. Now, drawing with pastels my work is more about deliberate choices. My painting compositions reflect my stories about travel, love and family. My inspiration is derived from mother nature, learning and exploring the world outside myself as well as my internal journey of self-reflection.
